DETROIT ? Manny Acta tried just about everything.
The Cleveland manager used six relief pitchers. He even had his team line up with only two outfielders in the ninth inning, when the Indians prevented Detroit from scoring the winning run.
It still wasn't enough. Cleveland's losing streak is nine, and the latest defeat unfolded in unthinkable fashion.
Miguel Cabrera's two-run homer completed a stunning five-run rally by Detroit with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning in a 10-8 victory over the Indians on Sunday.
There were two outs and nobody on with Detroit trailing 8-5 against closer Chris Perez when the Tigers came to life. Perez is an All-Star with 29 saves in 32 opportunities this season.
"What makes this so much worse is the way that our position players and bullpen did everything in the world to get us a game," said Perez. "I gave it all away."
Because of Cleveland's prolonged losing streak, Perez was pitching in a save situation for the first time in 10 days. After retiring the first two Detroit batters in the 10th, he walked two and gave up a double, single and Cabrera's home run.
Notes
? Slumping infielder Yuniesky Betancourt, who began the season as Kansas City's starting shortstop, was designated for assignment by the Royals. The former Mariner was batting .238. Betancourt, 30, signed a $2 million, one-year contract with Kansas City in December.
? RHP Carlos Villanueva (6-1, 3.19 ERA) left the Blue Jays for personal reasons and won't make his scheduled Tuesday start.
? Boston acquired 3B Danny Valencia from Minnesota for a minor league outfielder.
? Detroit acquired utility player Jeff Baker from the Cubs for two minor leaguers to be named.
