THR says that the movie is about a deep-cover operative who hits restart on his life by becoming a beat cop in Brooklyn, but soon discovers that the "global organization he was dedicated to fighting is also operating in his new backyard." The trade says that things are still very much in the early stages with both Pitt and Washington and that Jamie Foxx has also taken an interest in one of the parts.
While Gaghan hasn't directed a feature film since Syriana, he has been keeping busy. In addition to writing and directing Metro for TV last year, he also wrote the script for After Earth, the new M. Night Shyamalan movie starring Will and Jaden Smith. That movie will be out on June 7, 2013. Both Pitt and Washington have found themselves busy of late as well. The former is currently in production on both Ridley Scott and Cormac McCarthy's The Counselor and Steve McQueen's Twelve Year's A Slave, while the latter is working alongside Denzel Washington in the Baltasar Korm?kur comic book movie 2 Guns. Pitt will next be seen in Andrew Dominik's Killing Them Softly (check out the new poster HERE) and Washington will be in theaters with Robert Zemeckis' Flight this November.
UPDATE: The Wrap adds that Christoph Waltz is also interested in a character in the new film, namely someone named Black Zenga. Should Pitt turn down the part, Lionsgate is looking at Christian Bale, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon and Bradley Cooper as possible replacements.
