Chung Do Kwan Nationals Tournament to Benefit the

Somerset Hills YMCA Strong Kids Campaign

On Saturday, November 3^rd, the American Tae Kwon Do Academy (ATKDA) will host the 3^rd Annual Chung Do Kwan Nationals tournament. The event, which will be held at Ridge High School from 10am-4:30pm, will benefit the Somerset Hills YMCA?s Strong Kids Campaign.

This year, 225 individual tournament participants from 14 martial arts teams that represent 7 states will compete, and demonstrate exciting skills and challenging self-defense techniques. The event, run entirely by volunteers, is open and free to the public. Donations are gratefully accepted for the Y?s Strong Kids Campaign.

Participants will include all ranks and ages, from 7^th degree Black Belts to newly promoted White Belts. The day?s schedule will include Black Belt demonstrations, non-contact Sparring, and Forms, which are planned movements that simulate fighting. Not for the weak-of-heart (or foot!), there will be a board breaking station to provide tournament spectators with an opportunity to test their abilities.

The event is the brainchild of Frank Coppola, president of ATKDA and a 6^th degree black belt, who has been instructing Tae Kwon Do at the Somerset Hills YMCA since 1993 and is a devoted supporter of the Y?s Strong Kids Campaign. ?

The Strong Kids Annual Campaign allows the Y to help those in the community who are most in need including, but not limited to, families facing financial hardship, children at risk, people with special needs and support for cancer patients. Every dollar raised for the Strong Kids Campaign supports programs and services that benefit those in need.
