BLOOMINGTON ? Twin Cities golfers will be ringing in the New Year with nine holes next weekend.
The 39th Annual Snowbird Open at Highland Park Golf Course is January 1st. With the recently warmer than normal temperatures, Bloomington Golf Courses Director Jason Wingate doesn?t expect the weather to be a factor this year.
?We?ve had some years where we have had typical weather, which has been pretty miserable,? he said. ?We?ve also had some years when temperatures have been reasonable and we thought, ?What a better way to start the New Year off than with a round of golf???
Regardless of the conditions, the hardcore golfers always turn out.
?I can think of just a few years ago we had eight or nine inches of snow on the ground, and we still had people play,? Wingate said. ?They actually tied string to their golf ball so they could find it.?
The entry fee is $2 per person, with registration 9 a.m. ? noon. The open will be played as nine hole individual stroke play.
